Embarcadero and Public Piers Plan
In 2015, The Port of San Francisco’s began to update it’s Waterfront Land Use Plan. In support of that in 2018, they issued a “request for interest” for 14 waterfront structures within the Embarcadero Historic District. The Port’s goal was to make plans for rebuilding specific piers with work commencing when the update was approved.
Hassell Studio responded with some stunning designs as featured here. Their goal was to encourage public-private partnerships so that all ailing piers would be revived. Some might be for private use, but others funded by those developments would be for public benefit. We were captivated by the designs and would support this type of bold reimagination.
