A Greener Waterfront

A car-free Embarcadero would create a fresh air waterfront corridor with carbon-free transit and bikeways. The Embarcadero transit network connects to the entire region with connections to San Francisco’s Eastern neighborhoods, to all points in the city via Muni, and across the entire region via rail or ferry.

On a car-free Embarcadero, people could walk, bike, and roll to BART, Muni, and ferries, or come to the Embarcadero and walk, roll, pedicab, or take transit to all the great places along the waterfront. 🚶🏽‍♀️ 🚲 👨🏽‍🦽 🚇 ⛴ 🛳

A greener Embarcadero will also be a more resilient waterfront, with the ability to sustain a major earthquake and adapt to rising seas. By removing motor vehicle traffic from the Embarcadero, it will open up a range of solutions in protecting San Francisco’s Eastern shores from sea level rise. It would likely mean a lower price tag and swifter implementation as well. Read more about the current $10 - $30 Billion estimates here.
